    We ARE the Urban

There isn’t a dream to big to handle, if it’s on the table why not take it? Words that I live by. The digital world has taken magazine’s by storm and even though I prefer the experience of going to the book or newsstand to pick up a printed magazine, one young man (17 to be exact) has slightly changed my mind and showed me his world. Willie Greene is the youngest editor and chief of WeTheUrban, a online magazine. Other than Willie being a new friend of mine, he puts he’s heart and soul into his magazine, that’s why I love him and his work so much.

    Jillian:
Hello Willie! I’m so happy to interview you! As I’ve told you, I have been a fan of your magazine for so long. It was hard to admit how much I loved your magazine because I have a marriage with printed ones, but glad you convinced me to give it a try. Now I wanna know how this all got started.
    Willie:
WeTheUrban is an online publication dedicated to everything related to culture including: fashion, music, art, design, and the like! I started the blog in Sept. of ‘09! When I found Tumblr, I was in heaven. It’s literally the best and biggest creative platform in the entire world! One thing lead to another and now WTU is one of the largest culture blogs on all of Tumblr!

    Jillian:
I love how I once searched though Tumblr and saw your logo right next to WWD! So funny, but the greatest feeling in the world knowing all that hard work was put to great use. A random day for you, tell me.
    Willie:
Oh man, I hit snooze about 4 times this morning. Waking up at 7:30 is just not my thing. I went to school till 11:30 and came back home to finish up some spreads for this next issue!

    Jillian:
Haha that’s me every time I need to go out in the morning, when you finish school like I have you forget how early 7am is…I love sleeping. Now here’s a couple of random questions, because they are so fun to do. What is your last text message someone sent you?
    Willie:
    “Wanna hang out around 8?”
    Jillian:
Now isn’t that school time??? Haha. A famous person you’ve been compared to?
    Willie:
People always compare me to Chris Brown or Omarion? What??
    Jillian:
What is a typical dream for you?
    Willie:
Walking up to glass doors at the Conde Nast building with the WeTheUrban loho behind them. Ahh!
    Jillian:
If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional. with whom would it be?
    Willie:
Anna Wintour… or Betsey Johnson. Maybe Nicki Minaj?
    Jillian:
Okay so when I saw you at NYFW I saw you had the Fashion Week glow, you know the “OMFG! I’m in NYC and going to all amazing shows because I earned it damn it!” well maybe that’s me but you know what I mean.  How was that?! Tell me your most favorite moment.

(from the new issue of WeTheUrban Issue 4)

    Willie:
It was absolutely surreal. I’m so grateful I got to see the sights that I saw and meet the people I met! It’s so hard to choose one defying moment… but I would say being at the Oscar de la Renta show sitting across from Justin Timberlake, Anna Wintour, Nicki Minaj, Ashley Olsen, Rachel Zoe, and a ton of others was the highlight of my NYFW experience.

    Jillian:
So since you do write about fashion news on WTU what are your most important wardrobe essentials?
    Willie:
I always wear this faceted onyx bracelet. It gives me good luck! Sunnies are also must.

    Jillian:
What music are you currently listening to?
    Willie:
A lot of emerging unseen talent like Lana Del Rey, Archeo, etc. I’m not gonna lie though… I love me my top 40! Gaga, Minaj, Demi… they all have my heart!

    Jillian:
I have to ask because well the people should know! haha what are you favorite printed and digital magazines?
    Willie:
Vogue is always of quality. Nylon and WeTheUrban are pretty dope though ;D

    Jillian:
TOTALLY agree on both, I know you have a beautiful readers that read and follow your magazine, anything you would like to say to them?
    Willie:
Thank you so much for constantly clicking back to the site and making my dreams come true! I promise I won’t let you down! Look out for clothing, WeTheUrbanTV, and more amazing issues!
