Defender Ring, LLC is a self defense jewelry and social empowerment brand located in New York City that sells original, innovative self defense rings. 

Defender Ring launched for business in 2019, however the idea for the self defense jewelry company was sparked a few years before that.

On August 2, 2016 in New York City, Karina Vetrano went out for an afternoon jog in a nearby park and was viciously attacked and murdered in broad daylight.

Five days later on August 7, 2016 in Massachusetts, Vanessa Marcotte also went out for an afternoon run and was viciously attacked and killed in broad daylight.

These similar attacks in such a short time span sent shockwaves throughout the country as these murders were not what you would expect; these women were exercising in public places in the middle of the day. If these women had been in dangerous areas, late at night, and engaging in illegal activities, their murders would still be tragic, but more reasonable.

However, these women were simply doing what many healthy people do which is go for a run in their neighborhood. And they were doing for rungs in safe areas in broad daylight.

Following these murders, it was apparent that anyone could be a victim of crime anywhere and at anytime. How could you prepare for attacks and protect yourself if you didn’t know when or where an attack would occur?

The lack of practical self defense weapons outraged Defender Ring, LLC founder Ryan Lee, and the idea for Defender Ring was spawned out of this need.

He understood that a self defense weapon is only effective if you have it when an attack occurs. A pocket knife doesn’t help if it’s sitting in your drawer at home or at the bottom of your bag.

So he concluded that the most practical self defense weapons would be ones that were created from everyday accessories. And what better everyday accessory than a jewelry ring that is already convenient, and accessible on your fist from just wearing it.

Thus Defender Ring and the idea to create practical self defense weapons out of stylish jewelry was born.
