How a Local SEO Company is Helping Small Businesses Grow

How a Local SEO Company is Helping Small Businesses Grow

Bill Wolf is the founder of Gosu Sites, a local search engine optimization (SEO) company that is helping small businesses grow in the United States. He has been in the technology field for over 20 years and has a wide range of experience, from starting his own web hosting reseller business in high school to working as a software developer, software support lead, IT instructor, and freelance web designer.

He decided to start Gosu Sites after realizing that he had the skills and knowledge to help businesses succeed with SEO.  He is passionate about learning new things and sharing his knowledge with others and those qualities cross over perfectly into the SEO industry.

Bill has helped a number of small businesses improve their visibility with their target markets in search results to generate more leads and sales. One of the keys to his success is his commitment to excellent execution and customer care. His system really does help businesses grow, and he’s always happy to help small business owners learn more about SEO and online marketing.

This is his story.

An Entrepreneur’s Journey

Bill built his first website in 1997 at the age of 13. Without any mentorship, he was completely self-taught and learned everything he could about HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

By the time he was a senior in high school, he had started his own web hosting reseller business and was somehow managing to break even in spite of his lack of a formal business plan and customer service skills.

In 2004, Bill attended ICM School of Business in Pittsburgh, PA to pursue a degree with a focus in computer programming. Unable to handle the stress of adult life, he dropped out in his second term and eventually found himself unwelcomed by his own family. He was sleeping on a friend’s couch and sweeping floors in a dusty dollar store attic to get by.

He finally decided that it was time to get his life together and returned to ICM in 2005.

The school quickly hired him as a work-study to man their Help Desk and revamp their fledgling student grade portal. He delivered on his promise to create a great product and built up enough confidence to offer web design services to local businesses.

Web design never paid the bills because he struggled to connect with potential customers.  However, the school kept him on board part-time to continue his work not only as a developer but also as a 23-year-old programming and web design instructor. As a socially inept geek, the experience was invaluable.

Still struggling to get by and unable to generate cash flow in the web design business, he took on a full-time technical support role in 2010. He has only worked for 2 software companies since then and has held leadership positions since 2013.

Bill’s entrepreneurial spirit never died and he continued to build websites in his free time. In 2019, he started Gosu Sites to continue the pursuit of his dream of helping small businesses grow. Originally founded as a domain registrar and hosting company, the business quickly pivoted back to website design and added search engine optimization as its core service.

It’s incredibly difficult to start an SEO business. Bill has had to wear many hats to grow his business and had to level up his marketing, accounting, and business skills to find success. These are some of the challenges he’s faced while continuing to work his day job.

Creating a successful business model that can be scaled

Gosu Sites has to work with many vendors to fulfill local SEO services for customers. Bill personally handles all directory listings, review generation and response, keyword research, project management, reporting, and deployment. However, he also relies on a team of contractors to help with content marketing, link building, and website development.

The challenge was in figuring out how to make money while also delivering an exceptional product.

Early on, Bill realized that he needed to focus on results rather than time spent working. He charges a monthly fee and systemizes all of his offerings. This allows him to work efficiently and sustainably scale his business.

It also provides an incentive for customers to stay with Gosu Sites since they continue to see better results as long as they stay with him.

Finding clients

The SEO industry is full of snake oil salesmen and it’s hard for businesses to trust that someone won’t take their money and run.

To make the situation even more difficult, most business owners don’t know what SEO is or why it’s better to get started now rather than later.

His business mostly finds new clients through word of mouth, but soon he’ll start running advertisements on Google and Facebook when he’s ready to take the plunge of being a fulltime entrepreneur.

Bill has had to work hard to differentiate himself and build trust with the potential clients that he does connect with. He does this by being upfront about what he can and cannot do, over-delivering on key outcomes, and always putting his client’s best interests first.

Maintaining a high level of customer service

Write about working a full time job while making sure the business’s customers needs are still met

Even though he’s working a full-time job, Bill still makes sure that the business’s customers’ needs are met. He does this by staying committed to a high level of customer service. This includes taking early morning and late night meetings to get approvals and maintain a full understanding of their business strategies.

Learning about the industry and keeping up with changes

Local SEO is an ongoing service and it can be difficult to keep up with the constant changes in Google’s algorithm.

This means that Bill has to stay on top of his game and make sure that his team is always delivering the best possible results. This can be a challenge, but it’s something that he’s stayed committed to doing.

Becoming an authority in the industry

In order to be successful, Bill has had to become an authority in the industry. He does this by consistently delivering great results, writing helpful blog posts, and being active on social media.

This has been a challenge, but it’s something that he’s enjoyed doing. It’s also allowed him to connect with other like-minded people who are passionate about helping small businesses grow.

Finding good help

One of the challenges that Bill has faced is finding good help. It can be difficult to find people who are knowledgeable about local SEO and who are also trustworthy.

To overcome this challenge, Bill has been careful in his recruitment and hiring process and he makes sure to train his team members thoroughly.

Looking ahead

The SEO industry has grown to $50 million a year and is expected to grow to $100 million in 2025 and $200 million in 2030. Let’s take a look at some of the opportunities that Bill has in front of him.

Taking advantage of the growing industry

As the industry grows, so does the opportunity for Gosu Sites. There are more and more business owners who are starting to understand the importance of local SEO and are willing to invest in it.

This means that Bill has a chance to grow his business and help even more small businesses succeed.

Expanding services to include other areas of digital marketing

In addition to local SEO, there are other areas of digital marketing that can be beneficial for small businesses. These include social media marketing, pay-per-click advertising, and email marketing.

By expanding his services to include these other areas, Bill can help his clients even more and further differentiate himself from the competition.

Focusing on quality over quantity

As the industry grows, there will be more and more local SEO companies popping up. This can make it difficult to stand out from the crowd.

Bill has focused on quality over quantity from the beginning and this has allowed him to build a strong reputation in the industry. He will continue to focus on delivering great results for his clients and this will help him stay ahead of the competition.

Making a difference in the lives of small business owners

At the end of the day, what motivates Bill is making a difference in the lives of small business owners. He’s passionate about helping their businesses grow and succeed with his online marketing services.

This is what drives him to keep learning, expanding his services, and staying ahead of the curve.

Business Advice

If you’re thinking about starting a business or you’re struggling with a lack of business growth, Bill has some advice for you.

Find something that you’re passionate about. This will help you stay motivated when things get tough. You have to stay persistent and never give up just because you hit a roadblock. It’s easier to run through brick walls when you truly care about what’s on the other side.

Be careful in your recruitment and hiring process. It’s important to find people who are knowledgeable and trustworthy. The first few contractors or employees in every business are critical to long-term business growth.

Understand the needs of your customer base. You need to know who your ideal customer is and your marketing needs to reflect solutions to their most common problems.

Always put your client’s needs first. That means accommodating their schedules and providing the best results possible.

Pay attention to the numbers. Learn how to budget and make sure you stick to it. If you can’t find a mathematical way to make your business’s income exceed your expenses and grow your bottom line, then your chances of long term success are slim to none.

By following this advice, you’ll be well on your way to having a successful business.

It Isn’t Easy Helping Small Businesses Grow

It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and determination to be successful in business. If you’re thinking about starting a business, be prepared to face many challenges. But if you’re passionate about something that helps other people and you never stop learning, it’ll all be worth it in the end.

This was the story of Bill Wolf and Gosu Sites, a local SEO company that’s been helping small businesses grow since 2019. Through his own journey, Bill has learned a lot about what it takes to be successful and he’s happy to be where he is today.
