The Brolo – Two Brothers combining the classic style of Bolo Ties with the functionality of Eyewear Retainers
Burt Brolos is a small lifestyle company run by Colin and Keenan Burt (and their Mom!) who were sick and tired of being embarrassed by ugly eyewear retainers. Colin and Keenan first combined the classic style of Bolo Ties with the functionality of eyewear retainers in 2018. The Brolo provides their members (who they call Brolonation) with the most stylish, reversible sunny strap on the market. It took a while, but they believe they perfected their design. And they put their money where their mouth is. Each Brolo comes with a lifetime guarantee. Once you become a Brolonation member, their #1 goal is keeping you happy. And the way their members rave about them shows these two brothers mean business.
Colin and Keenan started to make this world a better place by helping their members Protect Their Specs with Style, but they have much more planned. Their blog is full of tips on how to protect the environment, personal development book lists, action steps to raise your vibration, new music, delicious beer, and messages from Brolonation members sharing their ideas on how to make planet earth a little more beautiful. Their goal above all else is to build a group of like-minded good people that enjoy life and want to leave this world a better place than they found it. Brolos is a passion project for these two. Colin and Keenan’s day job is in Aerospace Engineering where they spent 15 collective years with NASA working on the James Webb Space Telescope, specifically the Sunshield. And now they are working on NASA and ESA’s Mars Sample Return mission! Their biggest challenge is the perpetual juggling act between their day job, family, and Brolos. They say their mom, Shari, is the star behind the show. She makes all the Brolos in Cincinnati and ships them to Los Angeles where Keenan fulfills orders nightly. They will be the first ones to tell you how hard it is to run a business. There is so much to learn, do, and test all day every day. Lucky for us we live in the best time in history for side hustles. Companies like Shopify and Facebook make running a small business very straightforward. There is so much information at your fingertips. You can literally learn about eCommerce while you drive, do dishes, or take out the trash! But holy moly there is so much to do. Their recommendation above all else is to first think very hard about exactly what you want. They (specifically Colin) believe figuring out what you want is the hardest part. Once you know that, all you have to do is what makes you feel good. If you work towards your goal and truly feel good, the universe will move heaven and earth to make it happen for you. These brothers contribute their success to defining goals and chipping away daily. You don’t need to know it all. Go as far as you can see and from there you will see farther.
To date, the majority of Brolo sales have come through their Shopify store with Facebook Ads driving traffic. But their retail and custom Brolo operations (the current top two goals!) are picking up steam. The sky’s the limit for these two young entrepreneurial Aerospace engineers and their supportive mother. Keep an eye out for Brolos. You will start to see them everywhere.
